ENERGY AND RENEWABLES
Significant commitment to growth
Forum is committed to providing growth capital to advance the next generation of energy and renewable developers and companies in North America. As global citizens, Forum believes that renewable energy will play an ever-increasing role in the future development of our communities and infrastructure. Since our first investment in this market in 2013, we have been actively expanding our in-house expertise and have committed capital to solar, wind and transmission projects across North America.
Today, Forum has approximately $250 million of capital committed to energy and renewables investments and is actively looking to increase the number of investments in this rapidly growing sector. We are seeking experienced developers with pipelines of projects requiring capital to advance projects to construction and through to operation. As a developer ourselves, we are very comfortable with development projects and work closely to tailor investment solutions to support and advance the project pipeline and unlock growth.
Our renewable energy investment platform includes:
- National Energy Partners: Forum has committed to provide up to $15 million in growth financing for National Energy Partners (“NEP”). Based in New Jersey, NEP is an experienced developer that focuses on rooftop and ground mount distributed solar projects which deliver savings and efficiencies to businesses, schools and communities across the United States. Forum’s commitment will provide development capital and construction equity to fund NEP’s rapidly growing development pipeline.
- United Wind: Forum has committed $200 million of sponsor equity to United Wind, a Brooklyn based developer of distributed wind projects throughout the United States. Through its unique WindLease structure, United Wind provides homeowners, farms and businesses with the opportunity to install small-scale wind turbines on site, producing clean power and significant electricity savings. In addition to the sponsor equity investment, Forum invested in the corporate equity of United Wind and currently sits on the board of the company.
- Empire State Connector: Forum is advancing the Empire State Connector project in New York through a development partnership with a proven high-voltage, direct current (HVDC) transmission development team, oneGRID Corporation. The 1000MW HVDC project will allow upstate generators to physically deliver their renewable, “zero emission” energy and capacity along a 260 mile route directly into New York City.
- Residential rooftop solar: Forum is a leader in residential rooftop solar generation in Ontario. Forum’s residential rooftop portfolio consists of operating solar systems backed by Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) 20-year, fixed-rate microFIT contracts.
